Combined with another package of 6GB from a different source in a Asus P6T6 WS Revolution with a 920 CPU running W7 Ultimate RC x64 makes for a sweet machine that will serve me for a number of years.

Haven't got into overclocking this machine yet because at idle, with 15 programs running, it is not breathing hard. But I am not a gamer, just a worker bee.

Highly recommended on price/performance ratio.

Well I had read a lot of reviews before buying about DOA sticks, but figured at the price plus rebate, no one had a better deal.First let me say because of the concerns of DOA sticks I ordered from amazon instead of newegg or any other computer company because of return policies and that was a SMART decision on my part.all other companies require you to send back your defective merchandise before they send a replacement, well if its the only RAM you have, that means you can't use your PC for 2 weeks! In my case I did receive defects, at first I thought it was only 1 stick as the other two passed Memtest86 and windows mem check without problems.I asked amazon for a replacement and they sent the replacement the same day (2 day UPS!!!) and said to send back the bad RAM after I received the replacement, that is AWESOME customer service on amazons part.

Well I thought everything was running okay with the 2 sticks but shortly realized that when I tried to open any movie files (no matter the format) or actually just click on the folder they were in, windows 7 would freeze or shut down!I was about to cry (manly cry) because I had spent hours setting everything up on my new build and SSD and thought all my old data was lost!I had all my drivers updated BIOS configured to standard for cpu and memory, but couldn't access the files.I even re-installed windows, after hours of setting it up.Well an hour later UPS came with my replacement memory (remember 2 sticks I was using passed all memory tests).I popped in the first stick (like to test one at a time) and it ran okay, then I went into windows, clicked on the media folder and it OPENED!I was couldn't believe it, the problem was the memory when all the tests showed it was okay.Which means all 3 sticks were bad, not just the one (the one didn't even pass 5% of the tests). One thing I noticed was the replacement RAM had a green color to it (like pictures on amazon show) the memory I first received was black (I thought it was just the dye they used).

I rated it 4 stars because I know have 3 working sticks, which windows rated a 7.8 which is amazing.no issues, runs everything perfectly, and amazon was great with the replacement.the 1 star taken off was because of POOR quality control by OCZ, obviously this is a common problem and you probably have a 50% chance with your order.that has to be fixed.for $130 after rebate, memory that runs at 1600 8-8-8-24, 6 GB, you can't beat it.

oh and you have to configure yourself, if you are looking for an upgrade and don't want to mess with BIOS, don't buy this, if you are comfortable in the BIOS, go for it.just have to set the timing yourself and the multiplier.don't be upset that on default windows and your board see this as 1066 memory, the i7 chip is set that way, easy to change yourself though.8-8-8-24, 12X multiplier on standard bclock, and set your Voltage for the ram to 1.64 or 1.65(standard is 1.50 which is not enough, specs for this are 1.65)

Intel DP55KG Extreme Series Desktop Motherboard (P55 ATX Core i7 Core i5 LGA1156) Review

Intel DP55KG Extreme Series Desktop Motherboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I decided to build a computer after a 10 year hiatus.

SPECS:
I chose this motherboard, 4gb (2x2g)Corsair XMS 3 1600mhz ram,the new unlocked Intel i-875K processor cooled by a Corsair Hydro H50.Also went with Ultra X4 750 watt modular Power Supply, Hitachi 1gb 7200rpm Sata HD, Lite-On 24x DVD+RW, the LEXA S Case, and the EVGA GTX480 video card, and Asus XONAR Essence ST Soundcard.I have a 30 inch Dell 3008WFP Monitor, Apple Blue-tooth Wireless Keyboard and Logitech Performance Mouse MX to complete out my build.I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit 1 user OEM.

INSTALL:
It took me most of a Friday night to get this built.Mostly because the back plate of the Cooler doesn't fit correctly, I had to live with some bow in the back plate to get the 4th screw in.But all and all not too bad.It booted fine the first time.I didn't realize you can't use a Blue-tooth Keyboard at first so I had to grab an older cordless usb Microsoft one to actually set up Windows. The motherboard lined us great with my case and the SATA Cables and many of the other cables were able to route behind the motherboard through rubberized holes in the case.I had no issues installing the motherboard at all, just fine, and well laid out to plug in 4 fans, a water cooler, sata plugs, case front panel wires, power wires, etc.A+++

PERFORMANCE:
I didn't know how to overclock anymore after 10 years. So I read some stuff googling and wasn't sure and instead just used the Intel Desktop Control Panel to experiment.I ended up setting the Ram to 1600mhz and only changing the multiplier to 29x in quad config, 30 in three, and 31 in 2 and single core.I get a score of about 9,000 on CPU Mark. That was all I needed to do, no changing voltages or any of the rest of it.That is what worked best and has run cool and solid ever since.

FEATURES:
The blue-tooth doesn't work for my Apple keyboard, it recognizes it, lets you type in the code but loses connection, so I use a small usb dongle instead. The Video Card sits fine. There is some bling you can turn on in the bios for lights and a blue skull with glowing red eyes.I turned it on high since I have a case window. The real feature is the Intel Control Panel. It shows temps, overclock settings and fan speeds and lets you save profiles. That is a great feature and now that I am done overclocking, I don't use the bios anymore.I also downloaded the latest drivers and firmware from Intel.Paired with the Asus Soundcard (got because of the powerful headphone amp built in) I just use Grado SR-80 and Sennheiser RS140 wireless headphones and a set of Altec Lansing FX6021 speakers.

FINAL IMPRESSION:For me this was a good jump back in to building my own computer.I wasn't satisfied with anything pre-built that I could afford.Building my own let me spend in the areas I valued. The Intel Board was a great choice because it runs well and is very expandable with a second or even third video card and lots of SATA and USB Ports.Get one!

This was one of the cheapest 3x2Gb CAS-7 RAM available as of last weekend when I purchased it.Amazon delivered it a day early, which is always nice.My new system works lightning-fast, so I can't complain!

Just had to change one simple setting on my Gigabyte mobo to realize the advertised specs... (XMP=disabled should be XMP=Profile 1) and all of a sudden, it went from the mobo default CAS-8 at 1.5V to the memory default CAS-7 at 1.65V like advertised.Easy-peazy for an amateur techie like me.

Kingston HyperX 6GB Kit (3x2GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 DIMM Desktop Memory (KHX1600C9D3T1K3/6GX) Review

Kingston HyperX 6GB Kit 1600MHz DDR3 DIMM Desktop Memory

This memory is monstrous, although smaller case owners beware, as it looks the part. Its very tall and is maybe five times the height of normal memory sticks. Its also much heavier than normal memory, but with having a steel exterior, thats to be expected.

Performance wise, it does the job with ease and was simple to install, as it should be, fitting perfectly onto the board. My motherboard recognized it immediately and there were no issues associated with defective memory.

The highlight of this purchase for me was the fact that this is a three stick set, which I got at a GREAT PRICE on here and am kicking myself for not buying two sets instead of one.It definitely beats trying to price shop and buy 2GB sticks individually and going through all of the motions that brings.

I dont know how compatible this memory will be with older boards, but if youre looking to do a memory upgrade on an existing board and its compatible or if youre building a new system, you cant go wrong. It was good enough for my vicious, new build and unless you're trying to go bigger and better than mine (which most arent), it will be good for you as well.

Got these on I7 920 + ASUS P6X58D Premium.
So the story was like this
I started the computer overclocking the CPU to 3.32GHz, 1.35V, Memory 1604MHz, 1.65V, 9-9-9-24 (default timing), failed to install windows.
Then I went for CPU 3.2GHz, 1.35V, Memory 1546MHz, 1.65V, 9-9-9-24, BSOD upon entering windows.
Then I went for CPU 3.1GHZ, 1.35V, Memory 1497MHz, 1.65V, 9-9-9-24, prevent me from installing a logitech C910 webcam for some reason. I didn't suspect the reason was the memory at the first instance, and thus clocked my CPU back down.
So I set the CPU to default frequency and default voltage, memory on 1600MHz, 1.65V, 9-9-9-24 BSOD;
Then I thought to myself, is this CPU really F**ked up?(it's a second hand one) So I increased my CPU voltage to 1.35V again, without changing anything else. BSOD.
It's at that time I started considering if it was really the memory's problem. So I set the memory to 1333MHz, 1.65V, 9-9-9-24. Everything was fine, the webcam installed.
So I started investigating my CPU's potential. Without trying twice, I got 3.4GHz at 1.2125V, (I picked this combo at my whim), memory is OK at 1340MHz, 1.65V, 8-9-9-24.
This is not satisfactory and therefore I returned the item to Amazon, which usually works pretty well and I hope it's going to work well too this time.

Full disclosure: I don't actually run this at 1600MHz -- I overclocked all my computers throughout college but just didn't feel like it when I put this one together. So, because the RAM defaults to the normal high-speed JEDEC standard at 1.5V, and you need to manually set it to 1.65V and 1600MHz, I didn't. Just be aware of this if you want to buy this (or, last I checked, any other) memory for its higher-than-normal clock.

Anyway, my computer's been running well for about 8 months now and the RAM tested out fine in memtest86.

When I built my desktop the most RAM I could afford was 2GB of DDR3. While this was adequate I soon realized that I would need more soon! So I purchased this set from Corsair. It is 3 seperate 1333 MHZ 240 Pin chips. They come with a metal covering and not really a heat sink per se.
Overall I love having 6GB of RAM now, Less swapping during game play and the boot up time has been reduced noticably.

I purchased this the day it came available. I see that now it may be difficult to find these. Grab these when they become available again.

Here are the specs so you dont have to dig around the web to find them:

Don't listen to W. Garrahan's review.
This kit, if put in a proper I7 motherboard with tri channel and 3 slots will be fine.
XP won't recognize the 6gb ram but will not slow your pc down at all.XP 64 would be better but I'd go windows 7, I won't install vista or Vista64.

This kit is rock solid, superfast and easily handles more voltage and oc.

I was looking for a mobo to hold the components of my new i7 system. This is the best bang for the buck mobo you can get. Lots of ports (the usual USBs, Firewire, Ethernet, 7.1 audio HD plus an external e-sata), nice built in audio. Very easy to install: I've never built a computer by myself before and was able to do it without any problem, just using the included manual. No problems installing the CPU and CPU stock cooler. Runs great now, using Vista Ultimate x64, Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 8M L3 Cache 4.8GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Processor, OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 6GB Platinum XTC Triple Channel Kits, BFG BFGEGTX2851024OC2E NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 OC2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card.

Death in the Line of Duty
-------------------------------------

To start, even though this card is dead and Amazon won't accept a return, I in no way
blame Amazon for this fiasco, as the card was manufactured by XFX, not Amazon. I do however
have some choice words for XFX as the only replies I have received from them look like they were
written by a fifteen year old with no tech knowledge. The Card
------------------------
running the 5970 in an Antec 900
with an overclocked i7 920 (3.2 GHz)
and a ocz 700w power supply.

When this card performed, it did so admirably, pumping out massive performance that dominated
every game I threw at it including the currently (in my mind) best looking game Metro 2033, and
yes, before you ask, it can play Crysis!+Crysis- 1920 X 1080 with everything maxed = 55 fps average.

+Metro 2033- 1920 X 1080 with everything maxed = 39-42 fps average.

+World in Conflict 1920 X 1080 with everything maxed = 80-110 fps average.

-Average Temps before death at 38 % fan speed: 38c at idle.
-Average Temps before death at 50 % fan speed (loud but I use headphones) 60c at high load.So as you can see this card is blazing fast, and requires less power and produces less heat
than two physically cross-fired 5870s. So if you are looking for insane performance with surprisingly
forgiving power requirements,(eat your heart out GTX 480!) then look no further than the 5970.Conclusion
-------------------
I didn't think it was fair to rate this card low so I give the card itself a 4/5
but I think XFX should be ashamed of their support, so XFX gets a 2/5.

So buyer now you are at a crossroads. You know you want the blazing, steamy performance this card can
bring, but should you get it from XFX? Well that's up to you. Maybe my situation is a-typical of XFX's
customer service, but I feel that in recent years XFX has dropped the ball in the service department.
Well I'm off to once again try and initiate the RMA process, but so far I'm being given the run around.
Overall this is a great card as long as it doesn't run into any problems, because XFX won't be there for
you.

Asus P6T6 WS Revolution Core i7 / Intel X58/ DDR3/ CrossFireX & 3-Way SLI/ A&2GL/ ATX Motherboard Review

The board itself is excellent - tons of features, stable, and easy to overclock.

However, a few things are missing: No drivers for Windows 7 (yet) so you're basically stuck with the Microsoft default drivers for the chipset/RAID controller/etc. You also can't install the Asus ExpressGate (though Windows 7 boots up fast enough to make it kind of superfluous - I disabled it in the BIOS.

One of the only problems I had with this board was with the chassis intrusion feature. There is no way to disable the feature from the BIOS, and once the intrusion is tripped, the system will halt after POST. The only way to clear it is to reset the BIOS. So basically, every time you open up the case you have to clear the BIOS. Is this intentional? Maybe - obviously this affords the greatest level of security. But I just want the feature to tell me if someone was fooling with the case; I don't want the whole machine to lock down because of it. And again, there's no way to set the board tonot halt on ALL errors (like in previous Asus boards).

If you need the extra 16x PCI-E slot, this board is for you. And yes, you actually can physically fit in 4 GPUs (they'll run at x16, x16, x8, x8. Need more? Go for the P6T7.

Intel Core i7 965 3.2GHz 8M L3 Cache 6.4GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Extreme Processor Review

I upgraded to this processor from a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz 6M L2 Cache 1333MHz FSB LGA775 Dual-Core Processor. This processor is an amazing upgrade. I recommend the RAM for this processor Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 XMS3 6 GB 3 x 2 GB PC3-10666 1333MHz 240-Pin DDR3 Core i7 Memory Kit. This is one serious processor, the cost in my opinion is totally worth it. Just like all black box Intel processors this one is for serious gaming/ video editing. There are several Intel Core i7 processors out there that are more moderate and significantly less costly. You will see amazing boot times and access times that are really short. Games have no stutters or any significant lag.

I got a 3D Mark Vantage score of around 19,000 amazing!

Lets get to the specs:
965 Extreme Edition
Process: 45 nm
Cores: 4
Threads: 8
Clock (GHz): 3.2
Cache: 256 KB L2/core 8 MB shared L3
Memory:3xDDR3 800/1066 MHz
Quickpath*:1x 6.4 GT/s
Socket:LGA 1336 **

* QuickPath is a point-to-point processor interconnect developed by Intel to compete with HyperTransport. It allows the sub processors on the motherboard to have a quick access point to the main processor.
** make sure your motherboard has this socket before ordering.Pro's -
Amazing power for your desktop
Speed

Con's -
Costs
Requires new motherboard
Requires new memory

If your ready to step up to the latest killer system then this is the processor for you!

Thank you for reading my review I hope it helped.

Intel Core i7 Processor i7-920 2.66GHz 8 MB LGA1366 CPU BX80601920 Review

Pros:
It's my first build and coming from a Pentium 4 3.4 ghz in my Dell to this processor is simply amazing. I can now play Oblivion and L4D in the settings I want! Everything else it pretty much cuts through it like butter. It get a Windows 7 WEI of 7.6 3dmark Vantage CPU score P42500+ and I have it overclocked to 3.67 with blck of 184 vcore 1.225 with vdroop. Coupled with a Cooler Master V8 it's prime 95 stable (small ffts - 2 hours, large - 2 hours, blend - 9 hours) and LinX stable (max memory 10 runs) 75 degrees C max. Ambient 80 F

Cons:
None

Other thoughts:
If you are new to overclocking like I was here are some simple steps for a modest overclock:
WARNING: It is entirely possible to burn your CPU! Don't go crazy and set a high base clock from the start. Follow the steps!

1) download Realtemp.exe, cpu-z, prime 95, and LinX (google em)
2) go into your bios and increase the base clock by 5 (or 10 if impatient but remember my warning)
3) Load Windows and breath a sigh of relief if it does. But thats only 1/5 of the battle.
4) Run CPU-z to verify your overclock, close it then run realtemp.
5) Run LinX max memory, 3 runs. If it blue screens, restarts or errors then you've gone too far and you need to dial it down to keep your machine stable. Your last setting is your max overclock without adding vcore (cpu voltage).
6) If it passes with no errors and your max temps aren't above 85 C (some people use 80) then you're good, and you can add more base clock.
7) Go back to step 2 rinse and repeat.

8)Once you get to a speed you're happy with and it passes LinX, and is below 85 C, run prime 95 stress test for at least 6 hours of blend, 2 hours of small ffts, and 2 hours of large ffts. If it survives that then you're good for gaming and most everyday apps. If it survives p95 blend for 24 hours (no errors, < 85 C) then you're rock stable ready for mission critical or server work.

You can run Linx for more passes or folding@home SMP for further stability testing.

Finally don't expect much if you're using the heatsink that came with the processor.

Good luck. If I made a mistake somewhere please correct me in the comments.

BTW my motherboard is the EVGA X58 vanilla. The folks at the forums in their website are the most helpful and supportive folks you can find. Really thats the stuff that money can't buy, I strongly recommend their motherboards just for that. They have guides for more serious overclocks and guides explaining voltages, guides on optimizing Vista etc.

All the info about overclocking and stability testing comes from the stickied threads on the EVGA forums

This kit is great. It comes with 3 sticks of 2 GB each and the fan (which might not be really needed...) and screws for the installation of the fan.
I bought this for my first built, along with a corsair PSU.The setup is not really hard, you set the frequency, the latencies and you are good to go. The reason for the bad rating follows.

The good:
High frequency, low latency, well built, nice heat sinks, lifetime warranty, great consumer support by corsair. My current config is 1600MHz, 7-7-7-20-T1 @ 1.65v.

The not so good:
No instructions, not a single sheet with specs, which in my opinion is unbelievable. How much costs a single sheet with stock configurations?? 5 cents??Most of other kits have their specs in the corsair website, but as of 14 November 2009, this one has none...

I posted my question in their forum and got an answer within a few hours. I was very impressed with the precision of their answer and the speed, for this reason, consumer support + helpful community, I feel obliged to keep the overall in 5 stars.
