In order to get my ram running at the advertised 1200mhz speed from the stock speed of 800mhz, I had to overclock it along with the system FSB.

I'm currently running this CPU at 3.2Ghz (from the 2.66ghz stock) and it glides along smooth as silk! Using a Scythe SCINF-1000 fan & Heatsink, I keeptemperatures below 55 degrees on full load. Very impressive.

I totally recommend this CPU over the much more expensive "Quad-Cores". With a little overclocking, you will find out that this little monster has a lot of hidden potential just waiting to be released!

(More customer reviews)Upgrading from an Athlon 64 3700+ 939 to the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ AM2 shows noticable differences in performance at stock settings. Opening applications seems instant and start up and shut down times are so fast you can't blink or you'll miss them.

(I upgraded to Vista along with this processor and, to tell you the truth, Vista runs better than XP as far as I'm concerned. Computer starts up in less than 15 seconds {including motherboard bios screen} and shuts off in less than 6 seconds.)

I was able to overclock this processor from 2.6 GHz to 3.0 GHz without adjusting the voltage and it be stable. (I was able to do that due to there being no core multiplier restriction. Make sure your motherboard can do this before you purchase this processor!) I could easily get another .2 GHz out of this processor by messing with the voltage multiplier, still have a stock AM2 heatsink and fan on it, and it be stable. Not only that, but the processor temps were just over room temperature.

I haven't tested it, but if you have a very nice aftermarket heatsink and fan or watercooling in your PC, you might be able to get it to overclock further and be stable. I'm some what limited due to the processor being in a micro-ATX case as airflow and space are limited.

I dought you can find an Intel chip with this kind of performance at this price.

NOTE: This processor is built for the overclocker in mind as it doesn't come with a heatsink and fan. This would be the only con for this product if it could be considered a con.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Phenom II 940 black edition instead of Intel's I7 primarily because I could get much of the same performance (not all) but for much less.

The Phenom II was easy to overclock and squeeze another 15% performance out of also.

Lastly, because I already had an AM2+ socket motherboard I didn't have to go out and buy either a new motherboard OR new DDR3 memory which would have been the case in going with Intel.

My primary reasoning is that its doubtful I'll regularly utilize even 75-80% of the Quad processing power of this CPU so it is enough for me and overall a great value.

(More customer reviews)After buying pre-built systems for several years, I finally broke down and built my own this time. I think it is important to establish how I am using the processor, so here is my system.

I paired this processor with an MSI 790GX-G65 motherboard as the basis of my new system. The other portions are 1 GB Hitachi HDD, LG DVD RW, PNY GEFORCE GTS 250 video card, Windows 7 Professional, 8 Gb DDR3 memory, Antec 300 case, and Antec Truepower Trio power supply. I have five case fans, four input and one output.

Now, on to the processor itself.
- It comes with an "Approved" AMD heat sink. With aftermarket heat sinks, one has a separate tube of lubricant that goes on top of the CPU to seal the connection with the sink, but on this heat sink the sealer is applied to the base of the heat sink, which is very convenient. This sealant looks a bit like thin cardboard at the base of the heat sink; don't be fooled, it is supposed to be there and no additional paste is needed. The heat sink is large, with lots of copper.

- Installing the processor is quite simple, so long as you remember to line up the "notch" on one end of the processor with the "notch" on the CPU mount. Instructions are provided with the retail kit. Between those and the instructions that come with motherboards, you should have no problem installing the CPU.

- The CPU has a "Cool N Quiet" mode, if your motherboard supports it. Mine does, and in this mode the processors (there are four processor cores on the chip) work at varying speeds, depending upon the task loading of each core. From what I can tell the speeds are 800, 2400, and 3400 Mhz. Using this feature, my CPU temperature is generally around 30 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature I have seen the chip at is 51 C. Note that the "cool N quiet mode is NOT used when overclocking. The maximum operating temperature is 62 degrees C.

- Most motherboards have two memory modes: "Ganged" and "Unganged". The default seems to be unganged. The difference is that in "unganged" mode the memory is split up such that each CPU core gets a certain amount of memory, in my case, 2Gb per core. This mode is optimized for multiprocessing, whereas "Ganged" mode optimizes for one application. I mention this here because this CPU excels at multiple tasks, by which I mean that I have noticed a vast difference in performance from my last (single core) CPU, also a 3.4 Mhz. Running multiple applications is very smooth. This makes it great for business applications where one is multi-tasking constantly.

- The CPU pulls 140 watts at maximum speed, considerably less at the slower speeds. The point is that you need a good power supply; mine is a 550w version.

- This model is a "black" version, which means that the cores are unlocked and can be easily overclocked. I ran mine up to 3.8 without problems, but the temperature went to 40 degrees C at idle. Since I didn't really see any overall improvement, I went back to stock speeds and "cool n quiet". But if you are into speed, this model can go to 3.9 or so stock - after that I would recommend more aggressive cooling.

- The processor clocks at 7.4 on the Windows 7 "Calculations Per Second" ratings. This rating didn't change regardless of the over clocking, one of the reasons I went back to stock settings.

I actually looked for this unit when buying, although the lower models of the Phenom II X4 run at only slightly lower speeds, and would make a good buy. But for the price, the performance is great.

I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs a solid, dependable business processor. Pair it up with a good supporting system and it will do very well.

There's some problems with windows and the compatibility of the programs (I have to say Windows Xp), I haven't tested my processor on Vista or Seven, maybe I'll try to install in a near future the seven, I hope there's available a new version of msn messenger for 64 bits... The processor is cool, but if you install a 32 bit OS maybe you can't feel the difference. Cheers for AMD!

(More customer reviews)I bought this in a combo with a Biostar TH55B HD to upgrade a household server running 24/7. Goal was to achieve fastest speed with least energy use and stress on components (longest life). I set all voltages to their lowest in the Biostar's BIOS: CPU -.08V (~1.092 max. in CPU-Z, ~.082 min. EIST), VTT 1.15, PLL 1.8, PCH 1.1, IGD "Spec" i.e. lowest. To my surprise, reached a stable overclock of 3.608 GHz (22 x 164), which has passed every test I've thrown at it and has been running for a week now. (Posted a screen shot of one test above.) Temps are no issue with stock cooler--no surprise there. At idle, my Kill-a-Watt readings for the system with integrated graphics enabled, 1.5V DRAM, Corsair 80+ 400W PS and 1 HD spinning (not including monitor) is an amazing 39W. With 3 HDs spinning and 100% CPU (IntelBurnTest) the highest reading I've seen is 86W. Of course, if you're 3-D gaming with the GPU overclocked under the same circumstances the draw would be greater. But, with four threads (HT) at 3.6 GHz on tap, idling at 39W, this is incredible power per watt for 24/7 running, not to mention per dollar.

(More customer reviews)Well I had read a lot of reviews before buying about DOA sticks, but figured at the price plus rebate, no one had a better deal.First let me say because of the concerns of DOA sticks I ordered from amazon instead of newegg or any other computer company because of return policies and that was a SMART decision on my part.all other companies require you to send back your defective merchandise before they send a replacement, well if its the only RAM you have, that means you can't use your PC for 2 weeks!In my case I did receive defects, at first I thought it was only 1 stick as the other two passed Memtest86 and windows mem check without problems.I asked amazon for a replacement and they sent the replacement the same day (2 day UPS!!!) and said to send back the bad RAM after I received the replacement, that is AWESOME customer service on amazons part.

Well I thought everything was running okay with the 2 sticks but shortly realized that when I tried to open any movie files (no matter the format) or actually just click on the folder they were in, windows 7 would freeze or shut down!I was about to cry (manly cry) because I had spent hours setting everything up on my new build and SSD and thought all my old data was lost!I had all my drivers updated BIOS configured to standard for cpu and memory, but couldn't access the files.I even re-installed windows, after hours of setting it up.Well an hour later UPS came with my replacement memory (remember 2 sticks I was using passed all memory tests).I popped in the first stick (like to test one at a time) and it ran okay, then I went into windows, clicked on the media folder and it OPENED!I was couldn't believe it, the problem was the memory when all the tests showed it was okay.Which means all 3 sticks were bad, not just the one (the one didn't even pass 5% of the tests).One thing I noticed was the replacement RAM had a green color to it (like pictures on amazon show) the memory I first received was black (I thought it was just the dye they used).

I rated it 4 stars because I know have 3 working sticks, which windows rated a 7.8 which is amazing.no issues, runs everything perfectly, and amazon was great with the replacement.the 1 star taken off was because of POOR quality control by OCZ, obviously this is a common problem and you probably have a 50% chance with your order.that has to be fixed.for $130 after rebate, memory that runs at 1600 8-8-8-24, 6 GB, you can't beat it.

oh and you have to configure yourself, if you are looking for an upgrade and don't want to mess with BIOS, don't buy this, if you are comfortable in the BIOS, go for it.just have to set the timing yourself and the multiplier.don't be upset that on default windows and your board see this as 1066 memory, the i7 chip is set that way, easy to change yourself though.8-8-8-24, 12X multiplier on standard bclock, and set your Voltage for the ram to 1.64 or 1.65(standard is 1.50 which is not enough, specs for this are 1.65)

It eats anything in its path and blitzes through games. As a test, I opened about 20 applications (including Photoshop with it's heavy memory requirements) and switched quickly between programs in order to try and trip the CPU up. While I did this, I was playing music from a playlist of several thousand songs, painting/editing an image in PS, and most importantly, running Windows XP in a virtual machine inside Windows 7. 1GB RAM was dedicated to XP, along with 64MB of graphics memory. Would you believe it, there was no lag. Awesome.

I'm using it with a Gigabyte GA-P55 UD3R board, 2 x 2GB Patriot Viper II 'Sector 5' 1600MHz RAM, and Samsung's (latest) Spinpoint F3 hard drive (model HD501HJ). OS is Windows 7 32-bit. The whole thing runs beautifully! Just a heads up -- Windows 7 32-bit will only use 3.5GB RAM. No use buying more than 4GB in a 32-bit environment, and you need to make sure you buy RAM that will run at 1.65V or less. Do your homework before buying.

Had this thing doing 4GHz on the stock cooler with just a minor bump in voltage, mainly just to see how well it overclocks and scales with voltage increases. No complaints at all. The cooler will definitely be replaced as soon as funds permit. The stock Intel cooler is abysmal. I would not recommend anything but a minor OC using it. The cooler to buy for this CPU is the Prolimatech Megahalems, which isn't cheap, but those looking for superior performance need look no further. The Megahalems is the best choice.

Dynamic overclocking using Turbo Mode is excellent. The stock multiplier for the 750 is 20x. Using a Gigabyte P55 board, the multiplier goes as high as 24x when dynamically overclocking. Power consumption at idle during light tasks such as web surfing and playing music is fantastic. According to Everest, it uses just under 7 watts at idle. I feel this is an important point considering the current state of the economy. Any saving on electricity bills is worth thinking about unless you have money to burn. My sweet spot seems to be 148 BCLK (2.94GHz). At this speed, the CPU is able to dynamically overclock up to around 3.5Ghz and then lower the multiplier down to 9x when idle, which of course lowers the frequency, which of course means lower electricity bills.

Thanks, Intel, for making a great processor at a reasonable price. An i7 system running on X58 chipset would have cost a lot more. I wasn't prepared to pay the price because I am not a fool. I am more than happy with the i5 750, it's a very impressive CPU that should serve anybody well for a good few years.
