Samsung 2333SW 23-Inch Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I am really happy with the purchase of this monitor.I haven't seen too many reviews on it, so I was bit skeptical at first when purchasing it.It is the perfect size, 5ms response time, HDCP compliant, 16:9, and has a 20000:1 contrast ratio. One of the things about monitors in this size is the 16:9 viewing ratio - Some are not, and if you are interested in watching HDTV on your monitor then you'll have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, which I personally don't like.Pairs well with a Blu-ray player and HDCP compliant video card.I'm using it for all sorts of tasks - video and picture editing, blu-ray movies, internet, etc.I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on that end of it.All in all, a great value for the size and quality.

One note on the stand assembly:Use a bit of olive oil and place it around the rubber ring on the inside of the stand insert. This helps the stand slide into place much more easily, and will not hurt the monitor as long as you use the olive oil sparingly.

ViewSonic's VA2231WM 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor with Speakers, DVI and Energy Star 5.0 (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The ViewSonic VA2231WM 22 inch monitor offers a beautiful picture, great resolution, 1920 x 1080 native, relatively poor speakers (but if you cared about sound quality, you would have a separate set of descent speakers anyway). It comes with BOTH a DVI cable, and a VGA cable; plus a cable to support directing your sound output into the monitor's speakers. The base was really easy to attach without tools; all other setup was trivial too.

If you're getting by with speakers that cost less than $20, then you'll be happy with the space savings of the built in speakers. If you "need" high quality sound, then just leave the speaker part of this monitor unplugged, you'll still come out better off (and you won't see the speakers anyway).

The performance of this monitor seems great statistically, although I have it hooked to my laptop via a Targus docking station (via DVI) that connects via USB to the computer, I'm sure that I can't get all that stellar performance this way, but that's not it's purpose for me.

This monitor is highly recommended, it has a great price here on Amazon.com.Buy one for yourself.

ViewSonic VA2223wm 22-Inch 16:9 1080p LCD Monitor Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this monitor to replace a 10 year old 18" LCD.The monitor was easy to assemble, the color and size are nice, very nice.It took a little tweaking to get the color right on my Mac Mini, but once done the picture is quite stunning.
There are a couple of downsides, hence the 4 stars. The monitor does support DVI, but does not come with a DVI cable only VGA.Luckily, I had a spare DVI cable.Second, the speakers are not really good. They are fine for normal computer use, but if listen to a lot of music or movies on your computer, you will probably not like the built-in speakers.
All in all, a great monitor for the price.I recommend it.

ASUS VH242H 23.6-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)After 3+ months of great use of the VH242H, I cam home to find a problem that seems to be affecting/afflicting several other reviewers of this monitor - a flickering gray screen that does not seem to abate. I'll be hitting up ASUS service in the next few days, and will update this review or add comments as things progress.

Up until now, I've been very happy with this monitor and would certainly have given it 4 stars. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 star because it did so well. I might downgrade it depending on how ASUS service deals with this monitor.

[UPDATE 12/21/09]

Well, the monitor has gone to the ASUS repair facility and returned to me (with about a 2-week lag, and not the best online information regarding whether the monitor had been shipped or not), and it worked right out of the box.

And then it didn't. After putting my MacBook Pro to sleep and waking it up I found... the flickering BLACK screen of death. After jiggling, I was able to get the monitor working, but this happens now every time I either put the computer to sleep or unhook the monitor cable (which connects to a DisplayPort adapter). I've updated the video; more to follow soon.

Polycom PVX V8.0 Application for Single User Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The PVX software is very cost effective, and it works great. Just add a Logitech 9000 Pro and your good to go.This little program has allowed me to work from home much more, and flawlessly dials into other polycom and LifeSize conferencing systems.

You do have to be able to follow directions and set your firewall up with the simple configuration settings that are found in the help section of the application. There's nothing difficult about it though, just use common sense.

Try the demo first if your are a novice firewall user.

Also- be sure to download the 8.0.4 update from Polycom if your using a dual core or vista machine.

Dell 2709W 27-Inch LCD Widescreen Monitor Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I had a good HP monitor "or so I thought" but could never get good prints on my professional large format photo printer. What does one have to do with the other? EVERYTHING thats what! Even though my old monitor was calibrated monthly my prints were always dark and skin tones looked really bad considering what I saw on screen and the fact that the images came out of my Canon DSLR's and "L" glass and I always shoot in RAW mode. Then I learned that most consumer monitors are of the TL variety and don't accurately display enough gamut to do professional work. I always wondered why the pros used $2,500.00 Eizo monitors when you could get the same size one at Best buy that looked just as good to the naked eye for $300.00. This is not an Eizo but it's as close as you can get for $750.00 and is light years ahead of the consumer ones at Best Buy. And as soon as I plugged this bad boy in and calibrated it with a Huey ALL my printing problems disappeared. I can now print with professional results that look extremely close to what it shows on the monitor for the first time ever. I have been fighting that one for years now, tried different printers, calibrating equipment, Photoshop CS3 & CS4, Lightroom and it still looked terrible. New high end monitor and problem solved!!! SOOOO, if your a photographer spend the extra money to get an SPVA or similar type and stay away from the cheap TN monitors that places like Best Buy sell. If all you want is a gaming monitor or something for general use then get a cheap TN type. For more information on monitor types look here http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php There are reasons some things are so much more expensive than others that look the same.

Sony VAIO PCV-W510G Desktop (2.40-GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Sony's newest style is visually stunning with lots of cool features, but..... the speakers suck. They are way too quiet and they don't have any bass or treble control.Since they market it as a computer/tv, you would think that they would put a decent sound system in it.Luckily, I have been able to hook up an external set of speakers to it, but it takes away from the sleekness and versatility of the computer. It also comes preinstalled with way to much junk software, and no operating system cd's for reformatting.
Given that, I would still buy it because it's fresh new style. The computer itself is really thin and the screen is really nice.It is cool to look at web pages in widescreen format.I would suggest to buy it, but only if you are ok with adding external speakers.

Product Description:
When Sony introduced its "W" series of VAIO desktop computers, it proved that PCs didn't necessarily have to be big and bulky. Sporting a sleek all-in-one fold-open design that more closely resembled a notebook than a traditional multi-component desktop, the W series represented a bright new look for stay-at-home computers. But while the first W units weren't particularly powerful, the latest are. Though not quite up to the standards of Sony's potent Media Center PCs, the VAIO PCV-W510G Desktop combines a fashionable, space efficient sensibility with a huge widescreen display and enough muscle for anyone but hardcore gamers and 3-D graphic designers.
Driven by a 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and 512 MB of fast PC-2700 DDR RAM (expandable to 1 GB), the VAIO PCV-W510G offers adequate power for most any standard home, home office or business task. However, as in all other models in the W series to date, the unit's 3-D performance remains a weak spot. Its graphics chipset, an SiS 651 with 32 MB or shared (not dedicated) memory, will not efficiently run the latest 3-D games or 3-D animation packages.
Included inside the VAIO PCV-W510G is a combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive through which users can burn and play music compilations, archive data to long-lasting digital media, and enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters on the system's surprisingly spacious 17.5-inch widescreen (16.9 aspect ratio) LCD display. TV buffs will appreciate Sony's integrated Giga Pocket personal video recorder technology, which allows them to record their favorite television programs without using videotapes. Music aficionados can play CDs through the integrated stereo speakers even when the unit is closed, and store their MP3s on the large 80 GB hard drive.
Sony has enhanced the VAIO PCV-W510G with a variety of welcome amenities, including a V.90 data/fax modem for low-speed e-communication, a 10Base-T/100Base-TX Fast Ethernet interface for high-speed LAN and Internet access, four lightning quick USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripherals, an IEEE 1394 FireWire interface for outboard devices such as DV camcorders, and a hassle-free optical mouse. The keyboard is of particular interest, as it quickly folds up and out of the way to keep your desk or table free of clutter.
The exclusive bundled software package includes Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Works 7.0, Intuit Quicken 2004, Microsoft Age of Empires 2, and an impressive array of professional-quality music, video and image editing utilities.
