Polycom Soundpoint Pro SE-225 2-Line Professional Conference Phone with Caller ID Review

Polycom Soundpoint Pro SE-225 2-Line Professional Conference Phone with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

Due to the less than glowing reviews about this phone on this site, I hesitated from buying this phone. All my research indicated that this phone would perfectly suit my needs, but I passed over it and searched for more suitable alternatives. However, I found nothing comparable -especially at this price.I called Polycom's tech support department and asked about the kind of problems they received regarding this phone and what potential concerns customers typically express.

Well, I ordered the phone and set it up.It exceeded my expectations in every way.I work from home managing collaboration for nationally distributed sales and operations teams -thank goodness for the Internet.I spend much of my day on conference calls. With this phone and three way calling from my local phone company on each line, I can call instantly arrange conference calls with up to four locations.

This phone is very well designed for the person who uses the speakerphone.I almost exclusively use the speakerphone. No one has ever complained about the quality. It allows means to speak softly or not.I have walked into the room adjacent to my office and maintained a conversation.I can work with my back to the phone and continue my conversations.

The phone permits extensive user customization to suit her work style. This includes setting separate ring volumes and ring styles for each line.Separate handset, speakerphone and headset volumes.Stores 99 incoming, 99 outgoing call histories and 99 speed dial numbers. Many more options that indicate that Polycom spent some time thinking about the features that improve productivity.

The handset does not seem of any lesser quality than more expensive phones from Avaya, Meridian or Nortel.I do not consider the inability to lower the keypad volume problematic.I don't consider warmth generated by the phone abnormal or problematic. My home office permits me to work without disturbing anyone.I plug my phone into a battery up, so that I can use it even in a power outage.I have my entire office equipment on battery backup. My role does not accommodate downtime.

If you want a two-line phone with a terrific speakerphone, I do not believe you will find a better one -especially at this price.I recommend this phone without reservations.

August 10 Update:
Originally, when I submitted this review -two weeks ago, I said that I wished that the phone had a voicemail waiting indicator.Well, it does!!!I had to call my phone company, Qwest, and ask them to activitate "Visual Messaging Waiting Notification".Now, when I have a message, a red light on the button of the corresponding line -line 1 or 2, flashes. What a wonderful surprise!!So, now and after an additional two weeks of use, I do not have a single complaint or wish for this phone - perhaps a Qwerty keypad for entering contacts or bluetooth synchronization with Microsoft Outlook and my PalmOne Treo.:)

ClearOne Chat 50 Personal USB Speakerphone Review

ClearOne Chat 50 Personal USB Speakerphone

I use the chat50 mainly with skype, I also use it when traveling not only as a phone but to play music from my laptop. The result is far better than what you get from the small speakers in the computer.

When using skype, the quality of the sound is excellent. I bought the USB model so I do not have to carry a power source around.

The chat50 is also nicely built, has a feeling of quality (it better be for the price!)

Overall, very satisfied.

Voicestation 300 Analog Conference Phone Review

Voicestation 300 Analog Conference Phone

I work from home on a regular basis and this product solved the problem of not having a good solution for conducting conference calls from my home office. As stated in the literature, it doesn't pick up past about 7 feet from the phone but I actually think that is a good thing since any possible background noise (i.e. dog barking in another room) doesn't come across the call and distract the participants.Great phone and great buy.Highly recommended for small conf table or home office use.

Communicator Blue C100S USB Speakerphone for Skype Review

Communicator Blue C100S USB Speakerphone for Skype
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everyone who gives the Polycom Communicator C100S a great rating is absolutely correct. Under Windows XP this device is awesome. The sound quality is great on both ends. It doesn't take you long to realize that you are carrying on a conversation in a much more natural manner without a headset on.

When you want to use this device on any operating system other than Windows XP, you'll find that the device is nothing more than a cheap speaker and desktop microphone. Of course it works with Skype on Linux, MacOS and Windows Vista, just like any other speaker and desktop microphone do. Crappily.

The magic of this device is in the software. The echo cancellation and sound quality are all products of the drivers that lie between Skype and the device. Wihout those drivers, the device is just an expensive USB speaker/microphone. Those who say that the device works with MacOS and Vista are only partially right. The Skype integration buttons do not work on anything but XP and I could live with that. But the audio processing in the driver is what makes this device usable with Skype. Without it, there is terrible echo from your side that makes the device unusable. You may as well use a cheap pair of speakers and a cheap desktop microphone. You'll get the same performance and it'll cost you a lot less.

Windows Vista has been available to the software developers at Polycom for over a year now and there is apparently no Vista driver in the works. This means that the Polycom Communicator C100S is useless for almost all new computer purchasers. (I did recently read that Dell is now offering Windows XP on some new PC purchases. I belive for enterprise level buyers only though.)

There is apparently now no plan to release a Mac driver, as if there was ever one in development. Which I highly doubt. So, according to my spidey senses, unless you use Windows XP exclusively, and don't have any plans for a new computer, purchasing this device now is a waste of money.

This is a terrible shame as the Polycom Communicator C100S is an awesome device and I was really looking forward to using it when I purchased it. So far I haven't been able to use it more than once, as they haven't released any Vista drivers. I did use it once with a VMWare virtual machine running Windows XP, just to make sure that my device wasn't broken, and it does work as advertised on Windows XP.

Vista drivers were supposed to be released mid 2007, but it's almost mid 2008 now and there are no hints that they have ever assigned a software guy the task of writing them. My advice is to wait until Polycom shows some interest in supporting this device with current operating systems before shelling out any money for it. :o(

Polycom PVX V8.0 Application for Single User Review

Polycom PVX V8.0 Application for Single User
Average Reviews:

The PVX software is very cost effective, and it works great. Just add a Logitech 9000 Pro and your good to go.This little program has allowed me to work from home much more, and flawlessly dials into other polycom and LifeSize conferencing systems.

You do have to be able to follow directions and set your firewall up with the simple configuration settings that are found in the help section of the application. There's nothing difficult about it though, just use common sense.

Try the demo first if your are a novice firewall user.

Also- be sure to download the 8.0.4 update from Polycom if your using a dual core or vista machine.

Voicestation 500 Analog Conference Phone with Bluetooth Review

Voicestation 500 Analog Conference Phone with Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently started a new business venture working out of my home and have utilized my cell phone as my business phone, which works great because I'm able to always keep it with me, but it's less than adequate as an office phone. I purchased the Polycom Voicestation 500 to convert my cell phone to an office phone while at home and it works great. It's very easy and reliable to connect and disconnect via Bluetooth and, while connected, the quality of the full-duplex speakerphone is superb. Additionally, I have the V500 connected to my home landline and can use that line as well whenever needed. And that's where the "nearly perfect" description comes in; I wish the V500 had a caller ID display. I get caller ID on my cell phone display, but when a call comes in on the landline I have to keep a cordless phone (with a caller ID display) to see who's calling. Other than that, the phone is very high quality and delivers on every claim and I would definitely recommend to others.
