Support was great to work with, but the driver to make it Mac compatible did not work well.It works, and the image is fine, but to have the quality I would like, the MB's are too big to upload to the program I use it for.

Visioneer Strobe XP 100 Mobile Scanner TWAIN VRS PDF (SXP1001-DB) Review

Visioneer Strobe XP 100 Mobile Scanner TWAIN VRS PDF
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me clear up a couple of mistakes other people have written in their reviews:

1 - This device is ABSOLUTELY 100% Windows XP compatible. I am using it on a Windows XP, SP2 machine and it works fine.

2 - All sheet fed scanners can suffer from the problem of pages feeding in irregularly - it's inherent in the design. I have had other sheet fed scanners and can certify that this problem is not unique to this specific scanner.

3 - The XP 100 has gone through a couple of versions. This version on Amazon is the newest model. Some of the reviews were written back in 2003 or 2004 - those reviews were for a previous model.

I wouldn't lower a motorcycle's score because I get wet when I rode it in the rain. This device should not be compared to a flat bed or a bulk document scanner.

To be clear, this device will not replace a flat bed scanner. I definitely would not buy this scanner if you are primarily going to be scanning in your photos, or documents that you need immaculate copies of.

However if you are looking for a scanner with a small footprint that will allow you to quickly and easily scan in business or personal documents on a regular basis, this may be the perfect device.

I am in the shipping business. We have a high speed b/w network scanner for bulk work and a I had a flat bed scanner for color/fine work on my desk. However the network scanner is in another room and the flat bed was taking up too much space on my desk. The flatbed scanner was overkill - I didn't need to scan in many color documents and having to go through complicated preview/scanning procedures just ate up my time.

Most of the scanning I need to do involves single page documents - things like purchase orders, shipping confirmations, releases, etc. Walking to the network scanner 30 times a day was getting old, and I probably only scanned in 20%-30% of the documents that I could/should retain digital copies of.

The Visioneer scanner has been an amazing time saver for me. I can scan in a one page document in under 10 seconds. From there, I can drag-and-drop my scanned images to my Filemaker databases. The entire process takes less than 20 seconds. This saves me a huge amount of time every day AND I procrastinate less. The result is that I have cut down on the paper clutter AND I'm getting close to 100% on scanning in my documents.

The fact that it draws its power from the USB port is a bonus - fewer wires snaking around, over and under my desk.

I have been using it for 3 weeks and have not had a single crash or hang-up. In some of my other reviews I mention that it is critical for people to run WIndows Update regularly - I bet the crashing problems most people are experiencing are a result of Windows errors, not problems with the Visioneer software.

I logged in to Amazon today to purchase two additional scanners for other people in my office. Let's see if I can get them to be better at scanning in their documents so that we can better share information...

I will report back on how that effort goes.

Update - I actually purchased three more of these devices instead of the two I planned on. I have given one to my bookkeeper, one to my sales clerk and one to the traffic manager. The results have been amazing.

I now can, with almost 100% certainty, find digital versions of all paper documents related to any order from the past 3 weeks. My staff tells me that this device is MUCH easier and quicker to use than the other scanners in the office. The fact that it takes up almost no room on their desks is also a big plus.

It took me exactly 10 minutes to show all three users how to use this device. To date there have been no problems.

Visioneer RoadWarrior RW120 Color Mobile USB 2.0 VRS PDF TWAIN (RW120-WU) Review

I looked closely at the NeatReceipts scanner before deciding on this one, but thinkmade the right call.
I have been a Visioneer fan for some time, and I saw one of the Strobes used in my doctor's office and have been interested in one ever since.
The Strobes were overpriced so I never bought one, but broke down and got this one.I figured this was the low end of their line, since the documentation is for the RoadWarrior and the Strobe 100, but when I called Visioneer they told me this one has all the latest hardware in it and buying one of the other models would be a step backward. That made me feel better at least.

I should explain my decision: I used Quicken religiously and have always wanted a way to easily attach receipts to Quicken entries.(Older versions of Quicken had ways to, but they were all iffy and imperfect. Quicken 2007 does allow more direct scanning, although it, too, is pathetic but workable and does work with this scanner).I mention this because it seemed to me that the NeatReceipts scanner's claim to fame is that it reads the receipts and stores them and you can search by them. That's not ultimately what I need. My data is already sorted and I don't need to OCR the receipts--just store them for when I want to see them.Plus, buying this scanner got me PaperPort 11 (I have been using 9, refusing to upgrade due to cost) at no additional cost, which I do use extensively also.A two-for-one deal!

The scanner is actually quite nice. It may not be perfect, or a flatbed, but when I truly look at what I want one for, this is it. I've scanned over 200 receipts with it already and dozens of other documents. It's not as bulky or hard to place on my limited desk space as my old flatbed scanner (Visioneer 9320-USB).Plus, there's no "warm up" time which I always hated.

However, on the flip side, After the unit scans the document quite quickly, it pops up "Converting", which does take way too long for my taste. For a scan that takes say 10 seconds (for an 8.5x11), the conversion process takes 20-30.I THINK that time is dependent on what format you choose to scan to (i.e. Searchable PDFs take longer than PDFs), but I haven't found a format that just "pops" in to Paperport without conversion (I'll note here when you scan from Quicken 2007 into Quicken there is no conversion time--I like that!)

I have also scanned more than a few color photographs with this unit that have come out nicely.I was afraid this was mostly a B&W scanner, but it does well with color as well it seems.

As for difficulties feeding, I can say it is an art.I get more straight than crooked, and Paperport does do a good job straightening them for you, but it is annoying to have to start over.I wouldn't let that "quirk" of this hardware deter you from choosing this unit.

All in all, I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others considering it.

NeatReceipts Neat Business Cards Mobile Full Color Card Reader/Scanner Review

NeatReceipts Neat Business Cards Mobile Full Color Card Reader/Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Out of all the business card scanners I have tried, including the ones that friends and associates use, the neat business card bundle is the best. The character recognition is very good, but it has some trouble with really small characters. Sometimes I have to scan a card a few times to get it centered correctly, even after cleaning the unit. All in all this is a great product and one that I recommend to anyone who collects alot of business cards.
