Logitech MX900 Bluetooth Cordless Optical Mouse Review

Logitech MX900 Bluetooth Cordless Optical Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this mouse with my Powerbook with built in bluetooth.
Pros:
- Control- I have used this mouse for first person shooter video games, which requires that a mouse be very accurate and fast, this mouse is both.Supposedly there is a theoretical bottleneck in the refresh rate with bluetooth mice vs. USB mice and Logitech's own RF mouse (mx700), but I did not notice it in my use, so its doubtful that in ordinary, everyday use that anyone can tell the difference between this mouse and other quality corded mice.
- Ease of use- The mouse took less than 10 seconds for bluetooth to recognize the mouse and configure it.The mouse is literally plug and play, without the plug.Of course I am using my built in bluetooth, the mouse also comes with a hub that will require some installation of software that comes with package if you don't have built in bluetooth.
- Comfort- like the other reviews say, this is definitely a right handed mouse and its probably the most comfortable mouse I have owned.Beware if you are left handed though. The mouse is also heavy due to the batteries, but less than an hour later my hand adapted and I use this mouse as naturally as any other mouse.
Cons:
- Battery Life- really battery life is not an issue if you remember to always put your mouse in the cradle when you are not using it.It does become an issue, however, if you plan on using the mouse for extended time periods without charging or if you forget to charge your mouse.Nothing is worse than rushing to finish a document and suddenly have your mouse run out of batteries.Does it defeat the purpose of a cordless mouse if you have to keep a normal mouse close by as a backup? But as I said, if you use this mouse for a few hours at a time and always remember to place back in the hub, you'll be all right.
- Bluetooth hub- For me personally, I wish they would sell this mouse without the Bluetooth hub, because I don't need it.But maybe you don't need it either. What is the use of buying a "cordless mouse" when you need a hub that is connected to a cord anyways? If you are buying this mouse as a way to save room on your desk, keep in mind that you will need to connect the hub to your computer if you don't have bulit in bluetooth. This not only adds a cable going from your computer to the hub, but also adds a cable going to the electric outlet so you can use the hub to charge the mouse. So by buying a 'cordless" mouse, you've actually added an extra cord and a hub that takes up space. The hub is nice, however, if you already have some other bluetooth enable devices such as a phone or PDA that you have not been able to take advantage of because you don't have Bluetooth on your computer.
- Laptop practicality- see above if you don't have bluetooth built in.Its even worse for a laptop to lug around a hub.But if you do have laptop with built in bluetooth and you want to use this mouse for portability purposes there are also some things you must be aware of.First off the mouse does lessen your battery life a bit by way of the bluetooth connection.Secondly there is no OFF button on the mouse (it instead turns off by sensing inactivity), so to be able to travel with it, you must take the batteries out and then put them back in when you take it out of your bag.
- Price- This is by far the most money I've ever spent on a mouse. If you MUST have a cordless mouse and you don't care about bluetooth for your other peripherals, then consider the MX700 for almost half the price. The MX700 also comes with a hub, but it isn't bluetooth (and therefore has less range and much less connectivity options that bluetooth offers). If you can live with the decreased battery life and taking the batteries in and out, this mouse does become worth the price for a travel mouse. It is also great for Powerpoint presentations, hook up the laptop to a projector and you can sit anywhere in the room and still use your mouse to point and control the presentation, unless the room is huge like an auditorium and you are on the other side.
Conclusion- This mouse leaves nothing to be desired as far as performance and comfort go.Ease of installation is another plus to this great product. However, before you purchase this product, ask yourself is this mouse practical for you?Do you really need a bluetooth hub?Is it really worth the price to you for the bluetooth wireless mouse vs the rf wireless mouse or even a corded mouse? If your answer is yes to these questions, then I highly recommend the MX900 mouse to you.

Belkin F8T030 Bluetooth Access Point with USB Print Server Review

Belkin F8T030 Bluetooth Access Point with USB Print Server
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The tech support was prompt and knowledgeable. The unit has good range which seems to be limitied more by the class of the PDA that is trying to acess it.

HOWEVER this product has a VERY serious design deficiency that makes it UNSUITABLE FOR USE at any price!!!!Belkin tech support has confirmed that there is no way to reset the unit to the original factory settings if you can not acess it via the built in web manager.Belkin tech support also confirmed that there is also a flaw in the unit that will cause some user passwords to not be accepted.Once this happens, this will essentially require returning the unit for complete replacement. I know of no other networking product that has such a serious design flaw (all other networking devices I am aware of have at least a reset button somewhere or a "power on" sequence to handle these inevitable situations). It also makes the unit unusable for any scenario where if you make a change to the settings, you can not afford to be without it for the time to swap it out.

An obvious problem for you, me and Amazon here!

HP iPAQ hx2495b Pocket PC (FA674B#ABA) Review

HP iPAQ hx2495b Pocket PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so I bought a brand spanking new hx2495b. One of the first things I did was install a SD card. Then the problems started. Fairly frequent soft boots required to get the thing to turn on. Battery dead (0%) from full charge over night. Not too often, but a couple of times in the 2 weeks I had it.

Emailed hp support about the problem (I did forget to mension I had a SD card installed) and they, of course, recommended doing a ROM update. Okay, I just got a brand new unit, why should it need a ROM update all ready? I go and locate the update, down load it and go to install it. Sure enough the update they wanted me to install was the exact same version all ready in the silly thing! Like that is going to do any good, duh?

Then I notice one of the things the ROM update was suppost to fix is a lock up and battery drain problem when an SD card is installed. Humm, maybe they haven't really fixed that. So, I pull my SD card and whad ya know, all the problems went away!

Well, I really don't need the SD card, so I can live with that, but I'd wish they had said something about it! Even though I forgot about the SD card being in there, they should have realized the problem when I said the battery went dead over night! I can't be the only one to have this problem. Guess they don't want to admit there is still a flaw in the programming. A year after it was suppost to be fixed!

So, I'd recommend if you don't need an SD card, don't put one in. If you do need it, pull it out when your not using it.

One other thing to keep in mind is when you turn the PDA off, it doesn't really turn off. The display goes out, but a lot of stuff is still running inside. This is so it will come back exactly where you left off when you turn it back on. That's nice, but if you don't have it on a charger, it will drain the battery in 3-4 days just sitting around. Maybe not a big deal to most people, but I want to use the thing to keep a trail journal while hiking the Appalachian Trail, and I could go a week between towns and AC power. Guess I'll have to lug a solar charger along too if I want to use it.

Other than the problem with the SD card and not really turning off when its off, its a great little gizzmo. Solidly built and otherwise works great.

Oh, one other thing you might want to know. The instructions aren't clear about this. Activesync likes to turn it's self on all the time. The way to stop this is to set it to manual sync only. Unfortunetly, the button to access this command is not available if you have it set for USB sync. To set it to manual sync only, you have to set up a server connection first.

Start activesync (if it isn't already running!)
Menu > add server source
enter a dummy server address like 1.1.1.1
enter some other dummy info into the next blocks it wants you to fill in
then go back to menu and click on schedule.
Now select manual sync in two places.
Go back and delete the server connection.

Now active sync will only come on when you want it too.

HP iPAQ 4150 Pocket PC Review

HP iPAQ 4150 Pocket PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this IPAQ for several years now and it has more than served its purpose for me. Just recently however I wanted to add more memory to it and went to Staples to buy a 4 GIG SDHC. When I inserted the card into the unit,it still had the same amount of memory as before. (You can check this by clicking on SETTINGS/System/Memory and then click on STORAGE CARD.) So I called up HP and after they checked their records, they told me that that this unit can only take up to 512MB !! I was then put thru to their parts department and asked if they even made 512MB SD cards anymore. They said no they didn't, but that it could be specially ordered for only $228!! For that amount of money I could easily buy another unit, forget the card. I couldn't believe it. So I researched online and found a user who was using a 4 GIG SD card in his IPAQ 4150 with no problems. I read that since the Windows Mobile 2003 runs with FAT32, there should be no reason why it can't handle SD cards with 2 gig,4 gig, etc., when you need that extra memory. The only difference was that you have to use a NON SDHC card. The HC stands for High capacity which uses a different architecture. So, you have to use the standard 4 GIG SD card without the HC on the label. I ran back to Staples and found a 2 GIG standard SD card from SanDisk (they didn't have the higher 4 GIG on the shelf or I would've bought that one) for only $14.99 plus tax and when I inserted the card in the unit, it showed the increase in memory just fine! I wanted to pass this along so that you don't get discouraged when you need that extra amount of memory and are told that it can't be done. I'm still cringing at the thought of buying only 512 MB of memory for $228! It's unbelievable what people will try to con you into. In any case, this has nothing to do with the unit itself. I am now a very happy camper indeed!

Voicestation 500 Analog Conference Phone with Bluetooth Review

Voicestation 500 Analog Conference Phone with Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently started a new business venture working out of my home and have utilized my cell phone as my business phone, which works great because I'm able to always keep it with me, but it's less than adequate as an office phone. I purchased the Polycom Voicestation 500 to convert my cell phone to an office phone while at home and it works great. It's very easy and reliable to connect and disconnect via Bluetooth and, while connected, the quality of the full-duplex speakerphone is superb. Additionally, I have the V500 connected to my home landline and can use that line as well whenever needed. And that's where the "nearly perfect" description comes in; I wish the V500 had a caller ID display. I get caller ID on my cell phone display, but when a call comes in on the landline I have to keep a cordless phone (with a caller ID display) to see who's calling. Other than that, the phone is very high quality and delivers on every claim and I would definitely recommend to others.
